The CHALLENGE LBD Philosophy

Learning By Doing

LBD stands for "Learning By Doing". Our programmes are made up of tasks which have been continuously developed over more than fifteen years. The tasks can be successfully achieved in many different ways, are fun to do, and may be indoor or outdoor with varying levels of physicality.

 Do's and don'ts

We don't tell you what to do. It may be easier to state what our philosophy is not. You will not hear the following on a Challenge LBD programme -

  • "You don't want to do it like that!"
  • "What you need to know is..."

The aim of our programmes is not to deliver a refined body of high level theory which needs to be poured into delegates, or to instruct how to do/not do things.
Rather is is a structured way of helping people learn from their own experience.

Choose your level

The level of participation in tasks is up to each individual. Nothing is compulsory and delegates are asked to stay within their own "comfort levels". and "Be safe"

Tasks are designed to bring out particular learning objectives in a safe environment. Delegates can have the security of experimenting with different ways of working or different roles to ones they are accustomed, without the consequences of mistakes in their workplace.

Review and remember

The value of this kind of experiential learning is maximised with the skilful use of review sessions. Reviews are essential in order to draw out the individual learning points as well as any team issues , e.g. how differences between individuals may be used to improve the overall team performance. Reviews are also necessary to relate what is learned in practice back to the workplace, which is where a practised facilitator can be particularly useful Our pedigree
